Tech friends, here is another interesting news I found from Manila Bulletin dated August 22, 2010. It’s another interesting material about related to the status of the Nursing profession and Nursing career as a whole. Please read and air your comments if any.

Amid the decline in the global demand for Filipino nurses, more graduates of science-related courses are now pursuing a degree in medicine, the Board of Medicine said over the weekend.

Board of Medicine member Jose Cueto said the lessening of employment opportunities for nurses abroad seems to have contributed to the increase in National Medical Admission Test (NMAT) examinees.

The NMT is a requirement for undergraduates seeking a degree in medicine.

Six years ago when there was a high demand for nurses abroad, the Board of Medicine noted a sharp decline in medicine students.

”During the time when nursing was at the top on the list of (preferred courses by) students, there was a sharp decline on the number of students taking the National Medical Admission Test,” Cueto said.

However, the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) noted a reduction in the demand of nurses abroad.

Based on recent statistics from the POEA , the number of professional nurses deployed to other countries only increased by 6.71% from 12,618 to 13, 465 in 2009; as compared to the rate in 2008 when migrant nurses rose by 40.13% from 9,004 to 12,618.

Earlier, reports by the POEA showed that the trend was due to the global economic recession which reduced the demands of Filipino nurse in some countries like the United States, Canada, Kuwait, Quatar and Taiwan, and the increasing number of competing nurses from other countries like Pakistan, India, and some African nations.

”Doctors used to take nursing course, now it’s the nursing graduates who are taking medicine. The reverse education has been reversed,” Cuteto said.

Nursing, together with other health-related courses like physical therapy and medical technology are considered as some of the best preparatory courses for medicine.

A 2009 report by the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) showed that among the three courses, nursing is considered as most popular with 77,898 examinees, followed by medical technology (2,270), and then physical therapy (1,347).

Cueto said the decrease in the employment opportunities for nursing students contributed to the increase in the number of examinees in the medical board exam and the NMAT.

”Now the Center for Educational Measurement, Inc. which gives the NMAT, says there is now an increasing number of NMAT-takers,” Cueto said.

However, despite the increasing number in registered doctors, the board said it would still not be enough to address the lack of doctors in rural areas, since they would usually prefer to practice their profession abroad.

”Even if we increase the number of medical students, the problem is that many of them are still going abroad and for those who choose to stay in the country they usually only stay in the metropolitan areas,” Cueto said.

Aside from Cueto, the meeting last Friday was attended by PRC Chairman Nicolas Lapeña Jr. and three of the six members of the Board of Medicine, which includes its chairwoman Mildred Pareja, Miguel Noche Jr., Restituto De Ocampo.

Yes, Ichigo himself was surprised to learn that even his hollowfied getsuga was not able to cut any significant wound or make any good damage to him. Tech friends, this is Naruto Shippuuden 175. In this anime episode, the fight between Naruto and Pain finally closes as Naruto is seen to be the winner between the two. It was rather an unexpected outcome thinking that Pain is the Rinnegan user and is thought to be the leader of the Akatsuki. But Naruto managed to change his heart and made him believe that there is still hope for peace in this world. And so, Pain a.k.a. Nagato, performed his last Jutsu to revive all Konoha citizens whose lives were taken by him that day – an act that he thinks is a repayment for what he has falsely done. Tech friends, this is Bleach 285. In this anime episode, you’ll get to see how Rukia, Renji and Sado is being overpowered by the overgrown Zero espada – Yammy. With his shear size, he proves to be a very tough and powerful opponent even with the combined powers of the three. They all seemed like mere ants compared to Yammy’s size and power. So how will they battle against him without Ichigo on sight. On the other hand, the Vizards finally get their change to fight Aizen and settle the debt that the latter gave them several years ago back in Soul Society. Tech friends, this is One Piece 464. In this anime episode, the bloody battle continues with the Appearance of Oars Jr., the descendant of the giant beast whose size dwarfs even the tallest giants. Oars easily beats the hell out of all the giants in defensive position. Even if Ace is not ammenable with Oar’s help as he is becoming an easy target by the marines due to his very large body size, Oars still continue to move forward and try to save Ace. Tech friends, this is One Piece 463. In this anime episode, the great battle is starting off with a show of power between the two sides. First, the warlord Mihawk carrying the infamous black sword sends the world’s most powerful slash towards Whitebeard. But this attack was countered by the latter’s Diamond fruit eater and 3rd division commader of the Whitebeard Pirates. Next, Kizaru attacks with his very bright rain of light combination only to be repelled by Marco – the 1st division commander of the Whitebeard Pirates. Nevertheless, the government showed off one of its most powerful marines in the person of Admiral Akainu by sending a magma-like fist into the air just to counter one huge boulder of ice. Tech friends, this is Naruto Shippuuden 174. In this anime episode, Naruto finally tells Nagato of his answer to the only question about the cycle of Pain and revenge. He also told Nagato that the main character in Jiraiya’s novel was named after him – Naruto. Tech friends, this is Bleach 284. In this anime episode, the life story of Espada number 3 Halibel is being told. She was shown to be a powerful Vasto Lorde with Mila Rose, Sun sun and Apache back in Hueco Mundo during Barragan’s reign as king. There were even several conflicts between them. Even if she wasn’t able to get the attention of Aizen when the latter initially visited Hueco Mundo, she was soon visited by Aizen when she showed so much sacrifice for her comrades. But thanks to the three admirals and the warlords of the sea, the world government seems not to falter that easily. Even with Whitebeard’s tremor tremor fruit which can instantly create shock waves in the air, land or water, the winning side is still hard to tell at this point.
