Important Nursing Terms To Remember (41-60)

Nurse enthusiasts and tech friends, this is the third batch of the most important Nursing terms that every nurse wannabee and would-be nurse should remember. With this list, you will come to be more familiar with Nursing terms that are commonly used at school and also at the work-place such as in the hospital and other clinical field. Go on and read on the list below:

  1. genotype – actual gene composition
  2. atresia – absence of a opening in a normal passageway like the esophagus
  3. stenosis – narrowing of the passageway
  4. diastasis – separation of the rectus muscle in pregnancy (in abdomen)
  5. fecundation – other term for fertilizationfertilization
  6. sterility – inability to conceive
  7. epispadias – opening of penis at the dorsal surface of penis
  8. hypospadias – opening of the penis at the ventral surface (underside of penis)
  9. hemorrhoids – varicosities of the rectal vein
  10. Amelia / phocomelia – absence of one / more limbs upon birth maybe due to thalidomide
  11. orthopnea – person needs to sit / stand to breath without difficulty
  12. paroxysmal nocturnal dyspnea – waking at night due to shortness of breath
  13. ankle clonus – continuous motion of the foot, in eclampsia
  14. pseudocyesis – false pregnancy, no fetus but there’s enlarged abdomen
  15. duola – without professional credentials, assists the women in labor; a coach
  16. pudendum – refers to the male or female external genitalia
  17. diagonal conjugate – antero-posterior diameter of the pelvic inlet
  18. phimosis – constriction of foreskin that obstruct the urinary opening in males; an indication for circumcision
  19. thrush – manifests as a white gray patch on the cheeks of the newborn with Candida infection
  20. witch milk – newborn’s breast secrete this fluid

Important Nursing Terms To Remember (1-20)

These are the first 20 very important terms that nurses and those who are aspiring for a Nursing career should know. Tech friends can also learn this here online and add these words to your vocabulary.

1. agraphia – loss or inability to write due to damage of language center
2. agnosia – inability to distinguish familiar or common objects
3. astereognosis – inability to identify common objects by the sense of touch
4. graphesthesia – ability to feel writing on the skin
5. graphanesthesia – inability to feel writing on the skin
6. apraxia – purposeless movements
7. alexia – inability to comprehend written words (almost like Wernick’s aphasia)
8. concussion –bruising of the brain (preferably due to blunt force to brain)

Concussion

9. confabulation – fabrication of experiences or situation
10. contusion – injury that doesn’t disrupt the integrity of the skin, there’s swelling
11. nystagmus – oscillation of the eyes, associated with ear disorders
12. presbycusis – hearing loss associated with aging
13. poikilothermia – body’s temperature like the atmosphere’s temperature
14. tenesmus – straining in defecation
15. empyema – pus in gallbladder
16. choledocholithiasis – stones in the common bile duct
17. cholangitis – inflammation of bile duct
18. asterixis – there’s flapping of digits (+ Babinski reflex), in severe metabolic disorders
19. fetor hepaticus – very bad breath associated with liver disorder
20. autonomic dysreflexia – due to Spinal Cord Injury at level T7 or above (quadriplegia and paraplegia) wherein there’s uninhibited sympathetic stimulation
